Windows cannot be installed to this disk. MBR | EFY |GPT Error: 0xb9cc52b0

Are you getting an error- “Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFY system, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks.” If your answer is YES then you must read my post to solve it. Basically, I got very deep frustration while I got it some days back. Then I tried some methods to get it resolved. Well, let’s start and later I will tell you each and every detail ahead.

Hey,

I am Rahul and I will tell you how to deal with this error. Don’t worry about the error, only worry about the data. As we have three methods to fix this error which I have listed below:

  • Method 1 – Install windows with a fresh partition creation means by losing the data.
  • Method 2 – Install windows without losing data and just by simply changing the file system.
  • Method 3 – Install windows with data recovery and with fresh partition creation

Method 1 – FRESH PARTITION creation

In this method, I will tell you how to completely clean the data and get all done with a fresh setup. Let’s start

Step 1: You have to open Command Prompt i.e. CMD. You can open it by just pressing Shift+F10 on the same screen where the error is coming. If you are still confused then I have attached the screen just down below. Please check it.

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFY system, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks.

Step 2: After opening Comand Prompt (CMD), you have type following set of command.

diskpart
list disk

Now you will get a screen with disks attached to your computer or laptop. Now, you have to select your main HDD or SSD.

Type the next command:

select [type_disk_name_as_shown_on_screen]

After selecting the disk you have to clear all the data and format settings by simply typing following command:

clean

And at last type

exit
exit

All done! Now you can reboot your system again to reach here on the same screen or you can refresh the list of drives. You will see a clean drive there. You can now delete and create new partitions as you want and can install windows in that. At last, you will be able to install the windows and can use your laptop or system again. But do remember, this method doesn’t save the data. To save you can save it before installing the windows or by method 2 or method 3.

method 2 – By changing

Follow these steps if the hard disk volume size is less than 2.19 TB:

  • Temporarily disable the EFI Boot Sources setting in the BIOS:
  • Restart your computer or laptop, and then press F10 to enter the BIOS.
  • Navigate to Storage > Boot Order, and then disable the EFI Boot Sources.
  • Select File > Save Changes > Exit .
  • Install the Windows operating system.
  • Enable the EFI Boot Sources setting in the BIOS:
  • Restart the computer, and then press F10 to enter the BIOS.
  • Navigate to Storage > Boot Order, and then enable the EFI Boot Sources.
  • Select File > Save Changes > Exit .
